A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,..........
a time to be born and a time to die,..........
a time to weep and a time to laugh,..........
a time to mourn and a time to dance,..........
a time to search and a time to give up,..........

Big Bird says one of his favorite books of the Bible is Ecclesiastes. I don't know much about the Bible or about Ecclesiastes, but I think it must have been written by the Wise Old Owl. It has come to have special meaning to me this week. It's verses are true.

I wasn't even a glimmer in Baldy's (my Daddy) eye when Bertha was born, but we learned this week that she may be very sick. She has had a full life for a Bulldog (over twelve years), but may not have much longer to live. That has made Big Bird and Dovey sad and I have seen them cry.

Big Bird says when we loose someone we love, our sadness is a multiple of how much we loved that person. I know that Bertha is loved very much. I can tell by how sad Big Bird and Dovey are. I think I will miss her too. I will miss watching her dance in the entry way when Mandy Bird comes in the door. I will miss watching her chase Simon. I will miss watching Peter and Lydia chase her!

It seems somewhat strange to me, but even through the sadness I have seen Big Bird and Dovey laughing. I think it must say something about the joy that Bertha has brought into the lives of every one who knows her. Even when we are sad it's ok to laugh!

I considered going about to find out why Bertha is sick and why the Great Eagle allows us to be sad, but Big Bird said it wouldn't do any good. He says it's better just to throw yourself into the arms of The One who loves you more than anyone and whose peace cannot be comprehended.

Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the entire duty of man and parrots.

I love my flock. I love Bertha.
